hevea trees: the strength + sustainability behind our many shades of green™ line

Did you know that Hevea trees, and the natural rubber-like sap that they produce, are the main source for the world's latex production? Hevea trees are tapped similarly to how maple trees are, however, instead of producing maple syrup, Hevea sap is used in the production of goods such as automobile tires. Typically when a Hevea tree stops producing sufficient sap it is cut down and a new tree is planted in it's place. As part of our commitment to sustainability at martha's vineyard furniture co. we use these discarded trees for the production of our many shades of green™ line. Hevea wood can be compared to the strength and durability of oak, making it an excellent source for furniture construction. In addition, many Hevea tree plantations are now planting banana and cocoa plants alongside the trees as part of an increased effort to sustain the growth and production of this excellent natural resource.

the long point wildlife refuge

Long Point encompasses 600 acres on the Vineyard's South Shore and includes a stretch of white sand coastline, several fresh and salt water ponds, as well as grass and woodland habitats. It is a popular beach spot in the summer and a treasure for bird watchers and nature lovers during the off season as well. Long Point is one of the largest publicly accessible properties on the island and the inspiration behind our small (but highly functional) Long Point ottoman - a new addition to our olive street line.
